On this remembrance day of our father's burial, we look at the difference ten (10) years have made.
Introduction:
On 15th February, 2014, the patriarch of our family, Mazi Uchennaya Chuku was laid to rest in Ofiavu Ozuitem, Abia State.
It was a day of mourning and condolence as friends, family, social groups, the community and the church all came together to pay their last respect to a man of wisdom, integrity and honour; who lived his life in selfless service to the world around him.
To some he was a mentor, to others a listening ear and to most a reliable friend in need.
It was a well graced occasion that ended as a huge success, reflecting the nature of the man he was.
THE UNCERTAINTIES OF THIS CHANGE
As everyone else returned to their respective homes, the challenges of a new reality without a father figure hit the family.
At this time all that shade and protection that comes from 'the man of the house' was no longer there and sincerely not any of us knew exactly where or how to go on from there.
A STEADFAST FATHER
While we were getting worked up on how to live without a father, God came through for us offering love, care, protection, provision and guidance on the path of his plan for our family.
Most significant amongst these blessings is the increase in family size from just one (1) grandchild, Samuel, to seven (7) grandchildren and the number of sons-in-law to three (3) since then.
Also noteworthy is the growth of every family member in career, status, or experience all of which have amounted to a more financially stable family than ten years ago.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT DECADE
Today, we can look at the family's future with great optimism, as we draw strength from the testimonies we have from all these years.
When we take count of all the blessings of God in this family and the progress we've made, we can be rest assured that we're in his mighty hands where he'll continue to uphold us above: failure, setback, shame or defeat.
Summary:
Today's anniversary shouldn't call for tears and pain but for reflection and celebration as we not just remember our father's life and demise but appreciate God who has been an excellent father to us since then.
Rest well, Sir.
